ME & MUSIC
I can clearly remember back when Lil Wayne's, "We Be Steady Mobbin" first came out and my girls and I would all turn up the volume as high as it can go and start going crazy (besides our driver of course)! If you weren't a big fan of Young Money or Lil Wayne's family, there was definitely something wrong with you! Rap, Hip-Hop and underground music were some of the sounds that were running through my ear, but I occasionally listening to pop music here and there, like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, & other pop sensations. I guess in "my time" there were so much variety music to listen to that there was no one specific thing that everybody would listen to, besides Lil Wayne! It was really up to the artist and whether or not they had a good song out. Miley Cyrus, a big Disney family member, you would think that she would only be popular for kids, but her music caught on with a lot of high schoolers. Most adults didn't like some of the hip-hop stuff because it was so real. The lyrics were still censored, but somehow some of the metaphors used still made the song impossible for it to be a "G" rated song or anything suitable for a family to listen to. I think that adults were more uncomfortable listening to the music we listened to mainly because of the lyrics or their points they tried to get across. It was all about sex, money and fame. The cars, the clothes etc. I am asian so I come from a family who doesn't know English that well, but when it comes to the bad words and stuff, they for sure know what that is. My mom's generation wasn't as different. She was a rocker 80's chick and they had just as much out of control music as I did, so she didn't mind. As long as we had our minds right and our priorities straight, the music that we listened to didn't matter. It was something we enjoyed that soothed our brains. As I think about the music I listen to, I'd have to accept what the music in the future has to offer because its not like my music in my day was any better. I think throughout every generation, its going to be different, whether people like it or not, they would still have to accept it.
